Report Cards

  • Next Friday, January 27th, Report Cards will be handed out in the pick-up carpool lane or mailed out if not picked up.
  • As a reminder, the Report Cards are in the same format for both Grammar and Secondary students.  Please note that the 1st and 2nd quarter grades are averaged as a Semester Grade on the Report Card.  However, “Quarter Grades” only apply to Grammar students and “Semester Grades” only apply to Secondary students.

Classic 100 Golf Marathon

  • We have only received a few registration forms.  We need all families to participate in this incredible event that has the potential to raise thousands of dollars for our school!

Secondary Rehearsals for “A Pirate’s Life for Me”

  • Every Monday and Tuesday starting  the week of January 23rd
    • All practices will be held in “The Grove” from 3:45-5pm.

Fundraising Information

Family Life Pregnancy Center’s  Annual Fundraising Banquet 

  • Secondary Students are needed to serve at this meaningful event on Thursday, March 1st at Country Oaks Baptist Church.
  • Black slacks, black shirts and closed toe shoes are required. (No flip flops or tennis shoes.)
  • Secondary volunteers should arrive at 4:45pm to partake in pizza and check-in. Serving duties will begin at 5:00 pm sharp.
  • Please mark your calendars and look for a memo going home soon!

With flu and cold season in full swing, please remember:

  • To keep your sick children at home, as to not infect the other students.
  • Any child with a fever, or vomiting/diarrhea, or rash should wait 24 hours after symptoms subside to return to school.
  • If antibiotics are started, students should not return to school until they have been on the antibiotics for 24 hours.

Mandatory Parent Meeting for All Parents: Monday, January 9th

  • Come to the Golf Marathon Kick-off, and learn about one of our biggest fundraisers of the year.  A lot of other important information will also be presented!
  • We will begin promptly at 6:30 in the Chapel.
  • There is no childcare available.  Please make your own arrangements.
  • Remember to bring your “Information Handbook” to be entered into the raffle drawing!

Art Studio Classes

  • Our private HOS classes on Mondays have been cancelled due to not meeting the minimum number of students to run the class. 
  • Interested HOS students are invited to join the Homeschooling group that meets on Thursdays from 4-5:30pm at the Art Studio.  The first class is next Thursday, January 12th and will run every Thursday with the exception of the April 5th(Easter Break).
    • Cost is $55/month + a one-time Registration Fee of $25 for 1st time Art Studio students.  (All payments need to be taken directly to the Art Studio).

Secondary P.E.-Martial Arts Module

  • The long-awaited Martial Arts module begins NEXT Tuesday, January 10th.
  • This 6-week course of study emphasizes the disciplines of Marital Arts and is non-violent.
  • Students need to wear their P.E. uniforms each day during this session, and the P.E. sweatpants are STRONGLY recommended!

Ahoy!!  Secondary Play Practices for “A Pirate’s Life for Me” begin soon!

  • Rehearsal “Kick-Off”  – Thursday, January 19thafter Finals- For casted students, please bring your lunch to the Chapel at 12:15 and be ready for practice from 12:45-3:30.  (This is a minimum day).
    • Friday, January 20th- 8:30-12:15 (tentative).  All students, casted or not, will meet together to in the Chapel for drama fun!!

Secondary Finals Information

  • A hard copy of the complete Finals Schedule has been placed in your Secondary student’s mailbox with detailed information.
  • Since students will be staying in class even if they finish their Final early, they must bring something worthwhile to do (i.e. studying for other Finals, Omnibus reading, or personal reading). 
  • Wednesday, January 18th is a full day of Finals for all secondary students with dismissal at 3:30. 
  • Thursday, January 19th is a Minimum Day for 8th, 9th, 10th, & 12th graders ONLY.  Seventh (7th) & eleventh (11th) graders do not have school since they do not have Finals on this day!  

Report Cards

  • Just a reminder that the end of the 2nd Quarter /1st Semester is Friday, January 20th
  • On Friday, January 27th, Report Cards will be handed out in the pick-up carpool lane or mailed out if not picked up.

Forgotten Lunches/Lunch Payment Form

  • There has been an increased incidence of forgotten lunches.  When this happens, an attempt to reach the parent will be made to bring the student’s lunch.
  • When the school has to provide a lunch for a student because the parent(s) can’t be reached or are unable to bring their student’s lunch, the parent will receive a yellow “School-Provided Lunch Payment Form”. 
  • The signed form with payment is due the next school day.  Please see the attachment for an example of the form.
  • Teachers and peers are not to supply food items to other students. 

Parent Job Commitment

  • Parent jobs are one of the most important aspects of HOS.  Not only are they critical to the smooth running of our school, they provide a unique opportunity for you, the parent, to serve as a Godly mentor to all the students.
  • It is very important that each parent fulfills their weekly commitment of 3 hours/ week. When a parent is absent and does not find a substitute, it places a tremendous burden on the school staff to find a replacement. 
  • As stated in the Information Handbook,  the school will hire a substitute from a parent job substitute list if needed.  The substitute will be paid at the rate of $10.00 per hour.  The money to cover the substitute’s pay will be added to the absent parent’s monthly bill.  

Yearbook Bible Character Form

  • A goldenrod paper was sent home today asking each student to describe his/her favorite Bible Character. 
  • For your student’s entry to be included in the yearbook, the form MUST be returned to the school office no later than Friday, January 13th.

Congregating in the Parking Lot

  • When dropping off or picking up your student(s), please do not congregate near the carpool line.  Please make sure to park in a designated parking space as to not obstruct cars from entering or leaving the parking lot.  Thank you!

      • Don’t forget to find the perfect scarf!!  Just a reminder that there will be a “scarf” gift exchange on 12/14.  Boys will give to boys, and girls will give to girls. 
      • Please wrap the scarf, label for a “boy” or “girl”, and send to school on that day.  Please ensure that each scarf is appropriate for all ages K-6th

  • Uniform Information
    • As the cold weather is upon us, please ensure your student(s) are dressed appropriately to play outside.  Outside play will occur every day, unless there is heavy precipitation.
    • Many students are coming to school are not dressed appropriately for the cold weather.
    • As a reminder, only approved uniform sweaters are to be worn in class.  No jackets may be worn in class, including the green Dennis jacket. However, any jacket may be worn outside. Please refer to the Uniform Dress Code chart for more details.
    • Bell Ringing
      • Bell Ringing starts next week.  Please refer to the schedule that was sent home on Monday.
      • Remember to send your children with jackets, mittens, scarves, etc… for the event.

  • Bell Ringing and Advent Memo Reminder
    • Many permission slips for the Secondary and Grammar Bell Ringing event and the Grammar Advent participation have not been received.  If you have not turned in the permission slips, please call or text Laura Crosby NO LATER than Tuesday, November 22nd at noon if your child will be participating in either event.
    • Coordinating of rides for the Bell Ringing and choreography of the Advent Song is needing to take place, but cannot be done without an accurate student count.
    • As a reminder, the Bell Ringing is a required school event (those not attending will be counted as absent).  However, the Advent participation is optional.

    • To ensure your essay is picked up, please have all essays delivered to the school office no later than Monday, November 28, 2011 by 5pm.  All essays will be picked up from the school office the morning of Wednesday, November 30, 2011.   
  • Absences and Missed Work Reminder
    • Many absences that qualify for being “excused” remain “unexcused” simply because a written note or email was never given to the school. 
    • As a courtesy, parents should also notify the school by phone or email prior to noon on the day of any absence.  However, the phone call alone does not excuse the student’s absence, as a written or typed note must be received.
    • Please also review the “Missed Assignments for Absences” in the Information Handbook, as they are different for excused and unexcused absences.
  • BB King Tickets available for purchase:
    • The Trigos are not able to use the BB King tickets they received from the auction and would like to offer them to anyone who could use them.  They paid $65 and are asking for reimbursement for what they paid or best offer.  The show is at the Fox Theater in Bakersfield on Nov. 26th and the seats are in 20th row.  Please contact the Trigos for more information.
